Trends for 2011

Happy New Year! With a new year comes new resolutions and trends. CIFF trends for Autumn and Winter for 2010 - 2011 focus on 4 new trends. Body Performance, Trady-Twist, Rustic Roots, and Dark Poetry.

Body Performance:

Ballet inspired with fleshy skin tone fabric color choices, mixed with contrasting black and white. Mix in a bit of coral colors with warm undertones and you've got this look down. Think supple, silky fabrics like flowing chiffon and silk with more updated silhouettes. Fabric braiding, fitness style pants, and cocoon silhouettes will work perfectly with the second skin-like fabrics. Softness and stretch will be added with the textiles from Lycra. Major items include high waisted skirts, baggy sweatshirts, skinny jeans, and wrap details on tops. (TrendHunter)

Trady-Twist:

By far, my favorite look this winter. Trady-Twist is a retro English punk look built on rich colors and menswear copy-cat fabrics. Tweeds, Herringbone, and Prince of Wales knits are essential to pull of this look successfully. Accessories are important with this look so think rich and vintage bling like bronzes, misty golds and yellow diamonds to pull off this opulent trend. (Right Chanel A/W10-11:TrendHunter).

Rustic Roots:
There is a certain elegance to this trend with reworked metals and irons. Colors for this trend include a wide range of greens, browns, taupes, and rustic reds. Focus on the past in a reworked homage including overalls, sequins, and treatments to clothing like waffle or a burnout effects. Added textiles will be trendy with patches and plaid linings. The denim is washed out, torn, or treated like you've worn them for years, while outwear looks protective but is soft and supple. Included in this will also be the military look continuing with chinos, double closures, and natural fabrics. (TrendHunter)

Dark Poetry
A poetic midnight inspired look consists of deep black, grays, purple, blue will be contrasted with pale pinks and tans with greenish undertones. Intricate detail work with copper and gold will be present in a deteriorated way to make it look worn over time. Synthetic fabrics will have a mat or slightly shiny look to them while knit fabrics are thin. Fringe and layering will be popular with panel sewn dresses. Treatments and patterns will be popular with jeans and pants. Don't be afraid to go bold with darker, richer colors and edgy accessories. (The Ruffian).
